A single trichology course at USTI runs from $599 for the introductory class to $3,599 for in-person clinical training. The three certification steps cost $1,899, $2,999 and $3,599. Bought separately, the full pathway is $8,497. Bought as one bundle, it is $7,297.
| USTI course | Format | Listed price (October 3, 2026) |
|---|---|---|

| Associate Trichologist, Premium | Premium option | $3,599 |
| Clinical Trichologist Training | In person, hands on | $3,599 |

| Barbering Trichology Professional | Barber pathway | $1,899 |
| Continuing education courses | Single-topic classes | $299 each |
Across the industry, prices vary widely by format. Self-paced recorded courses tend to cost less. Live instruction, proctored exams and in-person clinical days cost more because they include educator time and assessment. Compare what each price includes, not the number alone. Our guide to choosing a trichology certification online lists what to check.
What does each step of the trichology pathway cost?
The USTI trichology pathway has three steps, and each has its own price and format. Step one is $1,899, step two is $2,999 and step three is $3,599. You can pay for one step at a time or bundle them.
Step 1: Hair Loss Practitioner, $1,899
Two full days of live virtual training in hair loss and the foundations of trichology. The listing states that AMCA certification and proctor fees are covered and that all digital materials are included. A Premium option at $2,199 adds premium materials, personalized coaching and additional professional resources.
Step 2: Associate Trichologist, $2,999
Three full days of live virtual training. The listing includes AMCA and USTI certifications and a 2 year USTI membership. A Premium option is listed at $3,599. For what the exam involves, see the Associate Trichologist certification exam guide.
Step 3: Clinical Trichologist Training, $3,599
Hands-on, in-person training with certified trichologists, live models and real consultations. Because it is in person, add travel and lodging to this step when you budget.
How much do the bundles save?
Bundles lower the total by $400 to $1,200 at the listed prices. The Full Trichology Bundle covers all three steps for $7,297 instead of $8,497. A bundle is the better deal only if you intend to finish every course in it.
| Bundle | Bundle price | Separate price | Saving |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hair Loss Practitioner + Associate Trichologist | $4,498 | $4,898 | $400 |
| Associate Trichologist + Clinical Trichologist Training | $6,098 | $6,598 | $500 |
| Full Trichology Bundle (all three steps) | $7,297 | $8,497 | $1,200 |
A simple way to decide:
- If you are testing whether trichology fits your business, buy step one alone.
- If you already know you want the Associate Trichologist credential, the two-course bundle saves $400.
- If you plan to open a dedicated practice and want clinical training, the full bundle saves the most.
See the current options on the course bundles page.
Are exam fees included in the trichology course cost?
It depends on the program. At USTI, the Hair Loss Practitioner listing states that AMCA certification and proctor fees are covered in the tuition. Elsewhere, exam fees may be a separate charge on top of the course price.
For reference, the American Medical Certification Association lists its own fees for candidates who register directly. As read on October 3, 2026, the Associate Trichologist Certification exam is $299 and the Trichologist Certification exam is $399, each with study material included. Knowing those numbers helps you compare a program that includes the exam with one that does not.
Questions to ask any school before you pay:
- Is the certification exam fee included, and for how many attempts?
- Is proctoring included?
- Are textbooks and digital materials included?
- Is there a membership or renewal fee later?
What costs should you budget beyond tuition?
Tuition is the largest line, but it is not the whole budget. Plan for equipment, travel for in-person training, time away from the chair, state licensing where it applies, and continuing education. Listing these before you enroll prevents surprises.
| Cost | When it applies | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Scalp scope or camera | When you start offering scalp analysis | See scopes and our scalp camera buyer's guide |
| Travel and lodging | Clinical Trichologist Training | In-person training |
| Time away from clients | Class days | 2 days for step one, 3 days for step two |
| State license costs | If you offer hands-on services | Rules vary by state. See do trichologists need a license |
| Continuing education | Each year | Single-topic classes are listed at $299 |
| Business setup | If you open a practice | See how to start a trichology business |
Can you finance a trichology course?
Yes. USTI's financing page lists four pay-over-time options at checkout: PayPal Pay Later, Affirm, Klarna and Afterpay. PayPal Pay Later is featured as 6 months interest-free. Each provider shows its terms before you commit, and the provider decides approval.
Financing spreads the cost. It does not lower it. Before you choose a plan:
- Read the provider's full terms, including what happens after any interest-free period.
- Match the payment to income you already have, not income you hope the course will create.
- Ask whether a bundle can be financed as one purchase.
Is the trichology course cost worth it?
It is worth it when you have a clear plan to use the training: clients already asking about thinning hair, a service you intend to add, or a practice you intend to open. The sooner you put it to work, the sooner it pays back.
Trichology training does not make you a medical provider. The role is to recognize, support and refer, and income depends on your own services, pricing and client base. For more on the return, read is trichology certification worth it and trichologist salary.
If you are weighing trichology course cost right now, start with two numbers: the price of the step you would take first, and the cost of the days you would spend in class. Then compare the listed options on the USTI course pages or call the admissions team with your questions.
